    Description

Most ship’s log record the distance travelled through the water. With the time in hours between the observations gives the ship’s speed in knots.
This very rare and unknown spring balance speed indicator with dial 0-15 immediately indicates the speed of the ship. Logs like this one are also fixed on the rail at the stern of a ship and would have been connected with a line to the rotor at the end of the line.
Rood patented this log in 1887 (Sharp, p26).
