Antique A. Hurlimann Naval Sextant In Original Box with original accoutrements such as a large (?) telescope held in cradle by wooden fasteners, 1 vane in slot, adjusting key, hand lens, sighting tube, Galilean scope, 1 eyepiece shade, and ALL glass lens are unbroken and in place!The frame is a bronze casting with silver inlaid arc, beautifully finished. All screws are in place and appear in excellent condition. The telescope kit comprises the usual “zero magnifying” sighting tube, what appears to be a 3x26 mm Galilean “star” and 6x15 “Keplerian or “inverting telescope. These are all noted from the work up on “The Nautical Sextant”you will find enclosed with the sextant!
The case appears to be a light oak in appearance with brass hinges and hooks, brass lock with ebony escutcheon. It is cracked across top but is not separated.
NOTE: There is a certificate of inspection from the US Naval Observatory Washington dated June 28, 1918 glued to top inside case lid! Listing the sextant by maker and #320.
